About Our programming

The Washington Neighborhood Center offers a variety of programs with a focus on education, recreation, wellness, culture, the arts, and youth development. Our goal is to provide an empowering, inter-generational space for youth, artists, and marginalized peoples.

Our programs are a key in holding space for marginalized communities. Through cultural programming, the Center offers opportunities for Chicano, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities to connect with our roots, engage in our traditions and cultural practices, and find community.

The Center also offers a wide range of youth-focused and all-ages programming. Our youth is our future – and we’re proud to provide children and young adults with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and positive environment.

We’re expanding our programming.

From 2024 – 2025, the Center will undergo major construction to fully restore our historic building. This renovation project will open a host of new facilities, and pave the way for impactful expansions to our current programming.

Danza Azteka – Kalpulli Itzkuauhtli

Every Sunday | 11:30 am

All ages. Drop-ins welcome!

Founded in 2003, Kalpulli Itzkuauhtli is a traditional Aztek (Mexika) dance circle, based in Sacramento, California. Our circle centers cultura, community, danza, familia and our little ones. Our primary goal is to ensure that the knowledge preserved for us by our ancestors is not lost, and that a new generation continues on, able to transmit this information to their children. This includes traditional dance, prayer, song, drumming, culture, customs, ceremonial gatherings, community presentations, community service work, regalia and instrument construction.
